Committed to the principles of international scholarship and objectivity, the center pursues a three-fold mission: to embody and promote the concepts of disinterested social science research and the dissemination of its results in post-Soviet Russia and Eurasia; to provide a free and open forum for the discussion and debate of critical national, regional and global issues; to further cooperation and strengthen relations between Russia and the United States by explaining the interests, objectives and policies of each.

Economics Education and Research Consortium Contributions

The Economics Education and Research Consortium was created in 1995 to strengthen economics education and research capabilities in the CIS. The initial focus of EERC was on graduate level education (in Ukraine) and research (in Russia). The Russian program, created in 1996 and managed by a small Moscow-based secretariat, supports original economics research and organizes advanced training programs. Since 2000, EERC-Russia has been serving as the regional representative of the Global Development Network (GDN) in CIS countries. With support from the GDN, EERC Russian program activities have been extended to other countries of the Former Soviet Union, leading to the creation of a CIS-wide research network. EERC's mission is to create and to support a local research culture, to encourage individual economists to work at the frontiers of their discipline, and to subject research to international standards of excellence. While trying to foster high-quality research in economics, we put special emphasis on local capacity building and formation of a CIS-wide professional network of economists engaged in policy-relevant studies. The final goal of our activities is to bridge the gap between the academic research (and researchers) and the policymaking process in CIS countries.
